Texas Football: Complete 4-Star CB Jamier Johnson trending to Longhorns
The upward trajectory of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class could be continuing on into the month of July, with a focus on the secondary.
A position that the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is doing a great job hitting on at the moment is cornerback. In general June was a big month on the recruiting trail for the Texas secondary. The Longhorns landed commitments from two four-star defensive backs earlier this month, including Kennedale safety JD Coffey III and Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem.
But it appears that the defensive backfield for the Longhorns could continue to be on the up and up. One key remaining uncommitted blue chip defensive back that could be trending to the Longhorns is four-star John Muir 6-foot and 170 pound cornerback Jamier Johnson.
With a commitment decision set for July 3 (this coming Friday), Johnson is one of the focal points of the summer months on the recruiting trail for head coach Tom Herman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai. On June 11, Johnson announced on his Twitter timeline that he would be declaring his commitment decision on July 3.

Back on April 13, Johnson released his latest round of finalist school cuts. The Longhorns were included in that group of schools along with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Colorado Buffaloes, Arizona State Sun Devils, Ohio State Buckeyes, and USC Trojans.

The more significant of the schools that offered him that he apparently cut includes the Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, Arizona Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, and Oregon State Beavers. He had 15 schools on his offer sheet as of the afternoon of June 30.
Recently hired defensive coordinator and former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash along with Valai are the two Longhorns coaches that are going after Johnson primarily. And when Ash was the head coach with the Scarlet Knights, they were scouting out Johnson and ultimately offered him. That has to carry some weight in this regard, along with the fact that Valai is the former Rutgers cornerbacks coach.
Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 236 2021 high school prospect, No. 17 cornerback, and No. 24 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). This Pasadena, CA, native would be the second top 20 ranked cornerback prospect in the nation for this cycle that could commit to the 2021 class.
Moreover, the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions is giving some favor to the Longhorns right now. One 247Sports analyst (Steve Wiltfong) gave a pretty confident pick to Texas. The Rivals FutureCast also has all of their analysts and publishers picking Texas over the rest of the competition.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 10 in the nation and remains in the top spot in the Big 12. They hold 13 commits in the 2021 class.
