Another player joins the growing list of those in the Texas football program that are either leaving or sitting out at this point in time.

The news continues to drop of various players from the Texas football program either entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, declaring that changes must be made in the near future, or that they are sitting out until further notice. And on July 2, there was more news from a big name player on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns of someone who will be sitting out for the time being until changes are made on the Forty Acres.

Rising junior converted safety and potential breakthrough linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was to be a key part at his position group on the Texas defense. In his limited exposure as a linebacker for the Longhorns thus far, Overshown was a stud. He was a real breakout candidate for the Longhorns this fall.

On his Twitter timeline on Thursday afternoon, Overshown announced that he was to no longer take part in Texas football activities until there is movement in “some changes that are long” overdue. He referenced WNBA star Maya Moore and how she was sitting out of their season for largely the same reason.

Overshown joins a growing list of Longhorns that have either entered the transfer portal or say that they won’t be taking part in team activities until some change is made. That list that Overshown joins includes the likes of junior cornerback Anthony Cook, junior linebacker Juwan Mitchell, and junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles.

During his sophomore season with the Longhorns, Overshown had production in five different games. He registered 18 total tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

Overshown was supposed to compete for one of the starting linebacker spots this year. Mitchell, rising redshirt sophomore Ayodele Adeoye, redshirt freshman David Gbenda, and redshirt sophomore Byron Vaughns, were all set to compete for playing time at middle linebacker and rover this coming season.
