Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns next blue chip 2021 commit
What is the next step for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class among their blue chip targets after landing a commitment from 4-Star CB Jamier Johnson?
The time that the 2021 Texas football recruiting class has to piece together the rest of the potential signees in the mix is dwindling down. But Texas did land a commitment from a big-time defensive back target on July 3, with the announcement of the pledge of four-star John Muir cornerback Jamier Johnson to play on the Forty Acres.
Texas is now up to 14 commits in their 2021 class, with the highest rated of the bunch being five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. After the commitment of Johnson, Texas now has nine four-star commits in the 2021 class and one-five star. Three others in the class are three-star commits, and ProKick Australia punter Isaac Pearson is still unranked.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 10 in the nation and remains steady in the top spot in the Big 12. They sit within striking distance of the Florida Gators and Michigan Wolverines above them in the top 10 of the national class rankings, as do the Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Hurricanes below them.
Even in the Big 12 recruiting rankings, the likes of the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma Sooners could heat up and get well within striking distance of the Longhorns. If Oklahoma lands a commitment from the elite five-star dual-threat quarterback Caleb Williams on the evening of July 4, they could vault themselves well inside the top 20 2021 classes (currently ranks at No. 21 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big 12).
However, who’s next for Texas in the 2021 class?
That question might take a while to be answered among the blue chip targets for the 2021 class, but here’s a look into the three that could be next.
