Texas Football: 3 most disappointing Longhorns QB’s since 2010
A roller coaster ride for the Texas football program at the quarterback position in the last decade saw some disappointing players roll through Austin.
The last decade was one of the worst in the history of the Texas football program. And a big reason why they struggled so much was a lack of coaching stability and poor quarterback play. The best individual season the Longhorns had in the last decade was back in 2018, when then sophomore breakthrough quarterback Sam Ehlinger and head coach Tom Herman led them to a double-digit win season, a triumph in the Red River Rivalry game during the regular season, and a Sugar Bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
But considering the success that Texas found in the 2000’s under former head coach Mack Brown, ending the 2010’s with only one double-digit win season is a pretty big letdown. There was only one occasion where the Longhorns finished up with less than 10 wins during the 2000’s. That came in 2000, and Texas still had nine wins that season.
Perhaps improved quarterback play under Herman’s wing heading into the 2020’s could be exactly what the Longhorns need. They are seemingly on the right track for the 2020 season, with established star rising senior Ehlinger spearheading the offense. Ehlinger is the consistently best signal caller on the Forty Acres since the departure of Colt McCoy following the 2009 season.
At least a potential solid 2020 campaign in Ehlinger’s last season in college could rectify some of the more disappointing quarterback production from the previous 10 years.
With that in mind, here’s a look back at the three most disappointing Longhorns quarterbacks from the 2010’s.
