Texas Basketball: 3 most efficient Longhorns returning next season
What could be a really promising 2020-21 season for the Texas basketball program will depend so heavily on the returning production from last year’s squad.
There is so much production returning for head coach Shaka Smart and the Texas basketball program for the looming 2020-21 season that it should be hard to keep this team out of the role of dark horse contention for a Big 12 Title. Texas returns pretty much every piece of their starting five from last season, and brings in the highly touted former five-star Vandegrift power forward recruit Greg Brown.
Smart helped the Longhorns to finish up with a record of 19-12 (9-9 Big 12) prior to the novel coronavirus-induced season cancellation. The Longhorns had their season called off before they could play their first game of the Big 12 Tournament or potentially participate in the NCAA Tournament.
The last game Texas played in the season that was came back in early March in the regular season finale against head coach Mike Boynton and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That regular season finale against Oklahoma State did result in a loss that snapped an impressive winning streak for the Longhorns.
Despite the loss to Oklahoma State, Texas did mostly finish out the 2019-20 season on a high note. They were on the bubble for Selection Sunday, but one win in the Big 12 Tournament and they were likely in. This brings a lot of excitement to the table for what could be to come for the impending 2020-21 season, depending on any potential adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
College football is surely facing significant adjustments, and college hoops might follow a similar path. Nonetheless, the Longhorns still have a lot of potential for the looming 2020-21 season. Here’s a look into the three most efficient Longhorn basketball players returning for next season.
