Texas Basketball: 3 most efficient Longhorns returning next season
1. Jericho Sims, Power Forward/Center
If not for an upper-body injury that ended the season of rising senior big man Jericho Sims last year, he might’ve been in position to earn himself All-Big 12 honors in the frontcourt. Sims played in 24 games (starting in all of them) last season prior to having his season ended due to injury, and he was stellar when healthy and on the floor.
In those two dozen games played last season for Sims, he averaged 9.7 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks. He shot 65.8 percent from the field and 59.2 percent from the free-throw line. Sims finally got the opportunity he was looking for to make an impact as the team’s best big man.
While the likes of Mohamed Bamba and Jaxson Hayes were playing for Texas in the previous two seasons, Sims had to sit in their shadow. This is finally his chance to get in the spotlight for the final two years of his college career. If it’s anything like last season, the 2020-21 campaign could be really special for Sims.
Moreover, Sims also registered a team-high 6.6 box plus/minus rating, .190 win shares per 40 minutes, 3.1 total win shares, a 4.6 block percentage, 17.8 rebounding percentage, 228 points produced, a 65.3 true shooting percentage, and a team-high 22.7 player efficiency rating. The 120.2 offensive rating/93.1 defensive ratings were also good for some of the best numbers on the team.
