Texas Women’s Soccer: 2020 schedule released in midst of COVID-19
The 2020 fall season for the Texas women’s soccer program is out and its set to start as soon as roughly one month from now against North Texas.
The Texas women’s soccer program is going full speed ahead with the original schedule in place for the looming 2020 season. On July 6, the women’s soccer team had their 2020 schedule announced, which includes a full 17-game slate. The games will start with the preseason on Aug. 14, and the Big 12 slate is set to begin on Sep. 24 at home against the Kansas State Wildcats.
The first game of the 2020 season in the preseason is set to come at home against the North Texas Mean Green. That leaves the official regular season opener coming against the UTSA Roadrunners at home on Aug. 20.
Much like is true for the Longhorns football program, the women’s soccer team has their most notable non-conference game set for Sep. 10 on the road in Baton Rouge against the LSU Tigers. That is one of just two scheduled non-conference road games set for the 2020 season. The other comes against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Sep. 13.
The official news release for the announcement of the 2020 fall soccer schedule comes with an asterisk that this is subject to change in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The postseason also is still being formulated at this time. That seems to be the case for nearly every single fall and winter college sport around the entire country at the moment.
Last season, the Texas soccer team finished up with a record of 11-8-1 (6-3 Big 12). They held a record of 6-5-0 at home and 5-3-0 on the road (the tie was at a neutral site). The run for Texas soccer last season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against the No. 22 ranked Texas A&M Aggies. They also lost in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in penalties against the TCU Horned Frogs.
Texas women’s soccer has 17 games on tap for the 2020 season as it stands now. They get the rival Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 25, and cap the regular season in late October against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
