3. 2007

There were a ton of expectations placed onto the shoulders of VY and the Titans heading into the 2007 season. VY was coming off a stellar rookie season where he was named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he looked to have a very bright future in front of him. And later in the 2007 season was where fans started to see it all go wrong.

VY still had an overall productive season in 2007. He rounded out with a record of 9-6-0 while starting in all 15 games he played in. He guided the Titans to the playoffs, but they were out in the first round after a loss to the San Diego Chargers in Wildcard Weekend. In that one playoff game against the Chargers, VY registered less than 150 total yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

During the regular season, VY found a bit better fortune in terms of his individual production. He registered just over 2,500 passing yards (a career best), nine passing touchdowns, a whopping 17 interceptions, a 50.8 quarterback rating, and a career best 62.3 completion percentage.

There were a ton of mixed thoughts that arose from VY’s 2007 season. His extraordinarily problematic interception issues were compounded by confusion with a career-high completion percentage. But he would never have an interception rate above four percent in his career as a starter again like he did in 2007 (4.5 percent specifically).

He did tie a career-high in approximate value rating at nine (per Pro-Football Reference). He also added 395 rushing yards and three scores on the ground in his second year in the NFL. He took a bit better care of the football, with 10 fumbles on 93 touches compared to 12 on 83 touches from his rookie season.

All in all, it is easy to see how there was still some hype remaining but also question marks emerging for VY’s game starting in his second season in the NFL.
