3. Chris Simms

There was a legitimate quarterback battled that ensued with the Longhorns in the early 2000’s, also in the early days under former head coach Mack Brown. That quarterback battled took place between two standout Texas signal callers including Major Applewhite and Chris Simms. The latter of those two would wind up winning the battle and starting for the bulk of the 2000-2002 seasons.

In his four year career as a quarterback at Texas, Simms would register just over 7,000 passing yards, 58 touchdowns through the air, 31 interceptions, and 10 rushing touchdowns. He completed 58.7 percent of his passing attempts, registered 7.5 adjusted yards per passing attempt and posted a decent passer efficiency rating just north of 138.

For his efforts in the early 2000’s at Texas, Simms would be the 97th overall pick in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The bulk of the starts that Simms would get came during the 2005 season (10 starts). He played in 23 games total during his NFL career, and got 16 starts (also played for three different teams).

Simms racked up 3,117 career passing yards, 12 touchdowns through the air, 18 interceptions, a quarterback rating just south of 70.0, 48 rushing yards, and one touchdown on the ground. Considering Simms had a legitimate opportunity to make headway with two different teams as an NFL starting quarterback and still posted an approximate value rating in the single-digits, he does come in the final spot on this list.
