The Texas football program has three underclassmen that might sit out of a shortened or dramatically altered 2020 season, depending on how that turns out.

There are a lot of problems that are trying to be solved around the college football landscape at the moment in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. And the Texas football program is one that is not going to be spared by all the alterations that are going to come down among the FBS conferences.

Although Texas does not have any concrete changes yet to their 2020 season schedule, they could be looming in the not too distant future. The Big 12 is anticipated to make any changes that they would make to the 2020 season in August (per 247Sports, paid content). And any decision that could be coming down in early August would likely have a direct impact on the Longhorns most crucial non-conference game, which is set for Week 2.

In Week 2, the Longhorns are set to face (at least as of the afternoon of July 14) the defending National Champion LSU Tigers on the road in Baton Rouge on Sep. 12. Since the Big 12 and SEC are the two lone remaining Power Five conferences still currently planning on playing a non-conference schedule, Texas-LSU now sits as about the most significant in that category for the fall.

But what would happen if the Big 12 followed suit with the Big Ten, ACC, and PAC-12 and shortened the 2020 season schedule to conference-only?

Or what if the alterations to the 2020 season end up being even more extreme than that?

It might not be worth it for all of the top 2021 NFL Draft prospects among the Power Five conference teams to even participate in whatever the 2020 season were to become. Which Longhorns would hypothetically be the ones to sit out of a vastly shortened/altered 2020 season?
