A former commit of the Minnesota Golden Gophers that looks to be trending to the Longhorns at this point in time is the unheralded three-star La Porte 6-foot-1 and 300 pound defensive tackle Albert Regis. Back on May 25, 2020, Regis decommitted from head coach P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers 2021 recruiting class.

Since then, Regis received a load of scholarship offers, including his from Texas on June 19. He’s also received offers from the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, and Arkansas Razorbacks since he decommitted from Minnesota. As of July 14, Regis holds offers from 17 schools. The highlights of the schools on his offer sheet (outside of those already mentioned) includes the Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, North Texas Mean Green, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

The momentum is really starting to pick up on the trail for Regis of late. It shouldn’t be all that long before he reaches 20 schools, and then two dozen, on his offer sheet. But a lot of that depends on how soon he makes his commitment decision.

As of now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions are giving the edge to Texas to land the commitment of Regis over the rest of the field. Texas already gained that elusive edge over Minnesota.

The Rivals FutureCast even has 88 percent of their analysts and publishers picking Regis to commit to Texas over the competition. The Texas native Regis is pretty clearly trending to land with the Longhorns right now.

Regis ranks as the nation’s No. 507 2021 high school prospect, No. 33 defensive tackle, and No. 71 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). In the Top247 Regis ranks as the nation’s No. 215 high school prospect, No. 15 defensive tackle, and No. 35 prospect out of Texas.
