Texas Football: 3 hidden gems to pursue for 2021 class
Yet another prospect that is picking up a ton of attention on the recruiting trail of late is three-star Cherry Creek tight end Gunnar Helm. This Englewood, CO, native stands at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds and is a high school prospect that holds blue chip level potential if he continues to round out his skill set as a route runner and pass catcher.
Helm does have solid hands and is a very polished run blocker by all indications (at least by way of his high school film). But he does need to add some speed and crisper route running ability before he becomes a legit threat in the passing game.
Nonetheless, Helm is still one of the latest targets of the Longhorns 2021 class to hold an unofficial virtual visit during the summer months this offseason. The unofficial virtual visit was held back on June 20. And he received his original Texas scholarship offer earlier that same month, on June 9.
Helm also holds offers from the Iowa Hawkeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Colorado Buffaloes, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, LSU, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee, and Washington Huskies. He’s got a pretty impressive offer sheet this offseason.
Moreover, Helm ranks as the nation’s No. 569 2021 high school prospect, No. 26 tight end, and No. 6 prospect out of Colorado (247Sports Composite). It does appear that Texas is prioritizing the pursuit of Helm now more than they did ever before.
