With mandatory summer workouts officially underway for the Texas football program, who needs to ramp up and show out the fastest?

No doubt there are a ton of question marks looming for not just the Texas football program, but the entire 2020 college football season. This season is really getting called into doubt of late, but the Big 12 and SEC appear to still be attempting to salvage any portion of their non-conference schedules. That is good news for Texas, as they do have a pretty massive non-conference affair slated against the defending National Champion LSU Tigers on Sep. 12 on the road in Baton Rouge.

But if the Big 12 winds up going the way of the Big Ten or PAC-12 (and likely the ACC for good too), then the non-conference schedule will either be a thing of the past or alter significantly. Texas is set to face the South Florida Bulls out of the American Athletic Conference in the regular season opener, LSU in Week 2 on the road, and the Rice Owls out of the Conference-USA at a neutral site in Week 3.

None of those three other aforementioned FBS conferences have announced any concrete changes to the way that non-con games will be played this fall.

In the meantime, Texas needs to be prepared for whatever happens this fall. If it comes to the point where Texas is not playing a 2020 college football season in the fall, then they have to be ready for a tumultuous 2021 offseason where there’s at least 18 months with no games.

It will already be a challenging feat to have this Longhorns team ready to go once the season is supposed to kickoff on Sep. 5 at home. Here’s a look into the three Longhorns players that will be most important to watch during mandatory workouts for the rest of the offseason.
