Texas Football: 3 players to watch in mandatory workouts
3. Brennan Eagles, Wide Receiver
Now with summer workouts officially underway with this Longhorns team, there’s a lot to look into as long as the 2020 season holds up in some form as planned. Even if there are major alterations to both the non-conference and Big 12 schedules, then Texas will have to be ready for whatever this novel coronavirus pandemic throws their way.
On the offensive side of the ball, there are a handful of names that stick out among those who should emerge as leaders this year. A name to watch in that regard at the skill positions is rising junior 6-foot-4 and 225 pound wide receiver Brennan Eagles. Two significant losses in the receiving corps between Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson could thrust Eagles into a much bigger role this fall.
With Eagles having a busy offseason thus far in terms of off-the-field activism and requests that sparked the changes for the University of Texas-Austin to have a more inclusive campus, it seems small to turn the attention back to the gridiron. But apparently Eagles has attended every mandatory workout and team meeting since athletes got back on campus earlier in the summer.
Last season was the best in terms of individual production for Eagles in his two year college career thus far. He registered 32 catches for 522 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, while averaging just over 16.0 yards per catch. He is the most productive wide receiver that will be returning for the Longhorns this year.
