At this point, it seems like former head coach Urban Meyer and current head coach Ryan Day made the Ohio State football program the official destination for blue chip prospects out of the state of Texas that wanted to pass on the Longhorns. This is an ever growing trend that stems back a few cycles.

This trend really started back with the former Austin native and five-star elite wide receiver recruit Garrett Wilson, when he chose Ohio State over Texas during the 2019 cycle. And the Ohio State 2021 recruiting class also landed big time Texas targets like elite four-star defensive end Tunmise Adeleye and now five-star Episcopal offensive guard Donovan Jackson.

Prior to his commitment to Ohio State back on Jan. 8, 2020, Jackson held offers from more than 30 schools. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, the Florida Gators, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, the Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M.

Jackson ranks as the nation’s no. 21 2021 high school prospect, top overall offensive guard, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). But the Top247 rankings slotted Jackson as the nation’s No. 6 high school prospect and top overall offensive guard and prospect out of Texas. No matter which way you spun it, Jackson was a colossal recruiting miss for the Longhorns.
