Texas Football: 4-Star CB target Jordan Hancock commits to Ohio State
A not too surprising loss for an offer of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class arrived on July 19 with 4-Star CB Jordan Hancock committing to Ohio St.
Most of the news on the trail of late for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class hasn’t been very good. Texas can’t catch much of a break in terms of getting the true top blue chip talent that they offered previously this cycle into their 2021 class. The biggest news of the weekend came when the highly coveted Brockermeyer twins announced that they would be foregoing their Longhorn offers for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Missing out on the Brockermeyers was the single most detrimental news to the 2021 Texas recruiting class so far this calendar year. Texas managed to lose out on two legacy commits and the nation’s top ranked offensive tackle (Tommy Brockermeyer) and center (James Brockermeyer) high school prospects of this cycle.
On July 19, the next bit of major news on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2021 class dropped among those blue chip prospects they’ve sent an offer to. The news dropped on Sunday afternoon that Texas would be officially missing out on four-star North Gwinnett 6-foot-1 and 175 pound cornerback Jordan Hancock as he announced his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
It is becoming an increasingly common storyline that Texas misses out on top prospects they’ve offered at the hands of the Buckeyes. The most notable of those prospects for this recruiting cycle that Texas missed out on to Ohio State are four-star defensive end Tunmise Adeleye and elite five-star offensive guard Donovan Jackson. Both Adeleye and Jackson likely had Texas and Ohio State in their top three schools before their commitment decisions were announced to the public.
However, getting their hands on the Suwanee, GA, native Hancock was not as likely for the Longhorns at any point lately as landing Adeleye and Jackson was. Hancock held offers from a whopping 45 schools prior to announcing his commitment to Ohio State.
Most of the schools that Hancock had big time interest with came out of the SEC and ACC, which makes sense geographically. But the overall highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Clemson Tigers, Alabama, the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC Trojans.
Hancock ranks as the nation’s No. 77 2021 high school prospect, No. 6 cornerback, and No. 9 prospect out of Georgia (247Sports Composite). Adding him to the mix will continue to push this 2021 Ohio State recruiting class to new heights.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Ohio State recruiting class now ranks in the top spot in the nation and obviously remains in the top spot in the Big Ten. They have a pretty mammoth lead over Alabama and the North Carolina Tar Heels in the national class rankings to round out the top three now. The commitment from Hancock gave them their 12th four-star commit in the 2021 class, and their 16th blue chip prospect overall.
The 2021 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 11 in the nation and remains in the top spot in the Big 12. They have an ever narrowing lead in the Big 12 recruiting rankings over the rival Sooners, who also sit in the top 15 of the national class rankings.
