In the more than 100-year long history of the Texas football program, there is a rather decent number of opponents who they only lost to.

With the illustrious 118-year history of the Texas football program, it doesn’t seem like many opponents would elude them on a consistent basis. But any blue blood college football program that has the level of traditional success that the Longhorns do will run into their fair share of challenges along the way.

Throughout the entire history of the Longhorns football program, their record sports more than 900 wins, 526 of which came at home. Texas also holds a record of 283-157-10 on the road, and 105-79-10 at neutral sites. They are one of the more accomplished programs in the entire country, but did run into some difficult times of late.

The 2010’s were the worst decade in the history of the Texas program. Compared to the 2000’s, which was one of the most successful in program history, the Longhorns took a major nose dive in the last decade. Texas had just one double-digit win season to round out the 2010’s, and didn’t get a single Big 12 Championship.

The rival Oklahoma Sooners were the program that owned the Big 12 throughout most of the last decade, especially in the late 2010’s. Hopefully the 2020’s will bring more success Texas’ way, and they’ll have to do it under to-be fourth-year head coach Tom Herman.

To round out the 2010’s, Herman was the third different head coach to spearhead this program. The other two were Mack Brown (currently in the same position with the North Carolina Tar Heels) and Charlie Strong.

However, the Longhorns did have a few opponents throughout their history that eluded them. Whether it be Texas only being able to face a certain opponent one time, or on multiple occasions in their program’s history, there were a few that only got the best of them up to this point.

There is a double-digit number of opponents that Texas has only lost to in their 118-year history. But there are some in which they are never likely to face again since the opponents’ programs no longer exist.

Nonetheless, here’s a look back at the eight most significant opponents that the Longhorns have only lost to in their history.
