Recently, Georgia redshirt sophomore CB Divaad Wilson put his name into the transfer portal. Could Texas football try to pursue him soon?

At least of late, the NCAA Transfer Portal was a really busy spot for head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program in the midst of a tumultuous offseason. Texas already pulled former Michigan Wolverines grad transfer rising senior wide receiver Tarik Black out of the transfer portal to help with a depth need in the receiving corps.

And with the load of losses that the Longhorns sustained in the secondary of late, another potential area of need to address through the transfer portal might have emerged. Texas just recently lost the likes of rising junior defensive back Anthony Cook and redshirt junior cornerback Kobe Boyce to the transfer portal in the last couple of months alone.

Earlier in the offseason, Texas also lost rising redshirt senior cornerback Donovan Duvernay to the portal. Now that the Longhorns have lost three experienced defensive backs to the transfer portal, it might be time for recently hired defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai to explore other options to fill a possible emerging depth need.

A name that emerged in the transfer portal recently that sticks out as one that is worth the Longhorns looking into is the former Georgia Bulldogs rising redshirt sophomore cornerback Divaad Wilson. Back on July 20, Wilson announced on his Twitter timeline that he would be putting his name in the transfer portal after three years with the Georgia football program.

Wilson is a product of Northwestern High School in Miami, FL. He was a four-star cornerback recruit that signed with Georgia during the 2018 recruiting cycle. He held a number of significant offers (more than two dozen schools on his offer sheet in total) including ones from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Tennessee Volunteers, among others.

And Wilson ranked as the nation’s No. 242 2018 high school prospect, No. 26 cornerback, and No. 46 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite). Wilson stands at 6-foot and 195 pounds and had a decent stretch with the Dawgs secondary over the course of the last two seasons.

Wilson played in roughly a dozen games total with Georgia in the last two years where he registered 28 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, and two pass deflections. He played pretty much solely at the cornerback position in Athens.

However, a potential problem for the Longhorns if they want to pursue Wilson out of the transfer portal is the fact that it seems like he wants to go closer to home. He was already in a bordering state of Florida while he was playing at UGA. Transferring to Texas might take a change of heart to happen.

Nonetheless, it is worth Texas at least reaching out to Wilson to see what his interest level would be in playing on the Forty Acres. Since Texas just lost another veteran defensive back recently with Boyce retiring from football, they could need some help soon.
