To start off the portion of this list of potential dark horse commits for the Longhorns 2021 class that are in-state, three-star South Grand Prairie cornerback Jalon Williams is a good place to scout. While the Longhorns don’t need as much help at corner as the other positions on this list, adding depth here wouldn’t hurt.

Texas did have a good bit of attrition in the defensive backfield so far this offseason. They lost rising redshirt senior cornerback Donovan Duvernay and junior Anthony Cook to the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier in the offseason. And redshirt junior cornerback Kobe Boyce recently announced his retirement from football due to mental health reasons.

Moreover, Williams is a solid target that the Longhorns could go after that is a product out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The recruiting luck for Herman and his staff did get better in recent cycles.

Williams ranks as the nation’s No. 824 2021 high school prospect, No. 71 cornerback, and No. 182 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). But the Top247 rankings do slot him as the No. 36 cornerback prospect and No. 64 prospect out of Texas. Needless to say that 247Sports alone is much higher on Williams than other recruiting outlets.

As of the afternoon of July 24, Williams holds nearly two dozen schools on his offer sheet. The highlights of the schools that offered him thus far includes the Arizona Wildcats, Boise State Broncos, Mizzou Tigers, Oregon State Beavers, Northwestern Wildcats, SMU Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and the Longhorns. This one shouldn’t be all that much for Texas to get if they were to prioritize his recruitment in the near future since they’ve already sent him a scholarship offer.
