Texas Football: 3 dark horse targets to become 2021 commits
Offensive line is a particularly notable area of need right now in the Longhorns 2021 class. Missing out on the Brockermeyer twins really setback any hopes Texas had of landing a truly elite group in the trenches. That now makes it five-star offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer, four-star center James Brockermeyer, and five-star offensive guard Donovan Jackson that the Longhorns have whiffed on along the offensive line.
Now that the Longhorns are having to look elsewhere for help along the offensive line, a possible good place to start is with three-star Braswell offensive tackle Erick Cade. This 6-foot-6 and 315 pound towering Denton, TX, native could be a great rising target for the Longhorns with his good footwork, high floor, and solid frame.
Cade does have the potential to be a valuable contributor two or three years down the road for Texas. He would be more of a longer-term investment, but one that could be worth it for Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand.
Moreover, Cade ranks as the nation’s No. 655 2021 high school prospect, No. 53 offensive tackle, and No. 92 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He is the highest rated prospect on this list, so he could be a realistic option for the Longhorns.
Cade does have himself a pretty impressive offer sheet so far. As of the afternoon of July 24, the highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the LSU Tigers, Alabama, Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies, and Arizona State Sun Devils.
