Texas Football: 3 most disappointing Mack Brown blue chip recruits
A story that took a very sad turn of late is the one with former Texas and Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jevan Snead. Then 32-year-old Snead would pass last year at an all too young age. But it wasn’t all that long ago that the Longhorns were trying to make it all work with Snead in the first place after he signed with Brown’s 2006 recruiting class.
Coming out of high school, Snead was one of the more highly touted recruits of the 2006 cycle. He ranked as the nation’s No. 37 2006 high school prospect, No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The Stephenville High School product wound up choosing the Longhorns over offers from the likes of the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.
There was only one season that Snead would stick around on the Forty Acres before McCoy officially won the quarterback job and sent him packing for Oxford. During his one season at Texas, Snead registered 371 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, two interceptions, 87 rushing yards, one touchdown on the ground, and a 122.0 passer efficiency rating.
At the conclusion of the 2006 season, Snead packed up his things and headed for Oxford. Ironically he joined up then Ole Miss head coach (currently for the defending National Champion LSU Tigers) Ed Orgeron during the 2007 offseason. He did a bit better at Ole Miss. Snead registered 5,765 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns, 35 interceptions, 203 rushing yards, and six touchdowns on the ground.
