What he brings to Texas

What the Longhorns are getting out of Helm is the nation’s No. 568 2021 high school prospect, No. 26 tight end, and No. 6 prospect out of Colorado (247Sports Composite). The Top247 rankings slot him as the No. 67 tight end and the No. 11 prospect out of Colorado. So the composite does look to be much higher on him.

Rivals is a bit higher on Helm in general than 247Sports. His Rivals recruiting ranking slots him as the No. 11 tight end and No. 5 prospect out of Colorado. The film for Helm does show a tight end that needs to add a little bit quicker get off of the line of scrimmage if he is to become a legit threat in the receiving game in a conference that plays as fast as the Big 12.

Helm is a good run and pass blocker (if he sticks around in that role). He does have potential in the receiving game, though, since he has good hands and is a pretty good route runner. Helm just has to work on that separation ability. But his agility can be deceptively good, even if his speed in the open field isn’t as much so.

All in all, getting a tight end commit back into this class helps out a ton for the Longhorns. After the decommitments from King and McRee, he becomes the sole true tight end commit in this class. That is unless three-star Everman athlete Juan Davis fits into the tight end position once he lands on the Forty Acres.
