Texas Football: 3 players who will become stars in 2020
3. DeMarvion Overshown, Linebacker
There won’t be many more obvious options for potential breakthrough stars in the Big 12 this fall on any team than the Longhorns rising redshirt sophomore converted safety (now playing at linebacker) DeMarvion Overshown. Due to positional clogging on the depth chart and injury problems persistently, Overshown has yet to get a consistent shot to shine yet.
But this should be the year where Overshown gets his real chance to shine in the spotlight. The former elite four-star recruit (was just a few spots away in his recruiting ranking to earning that coveted fifth star) has also moved around frequently to different positions on the defensive side of the ball since landing on the Forty Acres after signing with the 2018 Texas class.
During his redshirt freshman campaign with the Longhorns, Overshown really started to prove what he was capable of, no matter if he was lining up at safety or linebacker. In just five games played where he registered at least some stats, Overshown racked up 18 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
If there’s a full body of work ahead for Overshown this fall, it could be pretty scary as to what he’ll do. He could have a similar jump in production to what Ossai did last season. His physical tools, quickness off the snap, and insane closing speed should make him a real stud with this Texas linebacking corps starting this fall.
