1. Keondre Coburn, Defensive Tackle

It feels like all three names on this list of potential breakout stars for the Longhorns are just too often forgotten. And it’s understandable why the microscope wasn’t too heavily focused on the development of the likes of the previous two players on this list with all that’s going on throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and all of the social activism, even on the campus of the University of Texas-Austin.

Another name that should come about in the discussion of overlooked Longhorns heading into fall camp is redshirt sophomore defensive tackle and former four-star recruit Keondre Coburn. Similar to Eagles and Overshown, while Coburn didn’t turn into a star last year he did really start to prove what he could do on the big stage.

In eight games played where he registered some level of production, Coburn racked up 24.0 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. He looks to have about the brightest future of any Texas defensive tackle since Poona Ford departed the Forty Acres two offseasons ago. Texas is really set with an anchor along the defensive line.

A big onus is going to fall on Coburn’s shoulders this fall since the defensive tackle position for the Longhorns got rather thin earlier in the offseason. Rising senior defensive tackles D’Andre Christmas-Giles and Gerald Wilbon put their names into the NCAA Transfer Portal already, which means the two backups behind Coburn at this spot on the depth chart are now gone.
