Heading into the 2020 season, where can the Texas football program start looking for quarterback answers when Sam Ehlinger’s time is done?

What is bound to be the biggest storyline pertaining to the roster turnover for the Texas football program come next offseason is going to be the battle for the next starting quarterback. Once the time for Sam Ehlinger is done on the Forty Acres, head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns will be forced to usher in a new era for the next starting quarterback.

The rising senior star dual-threat signal caller and Austin, TX, native Ehlinger was the face of the Longhorns program over the course of the last two seasons. He guided Texas to a combined 18 wins in the last two seasons, which is much better than any other quarterback has done since Colt McCoy for the Longhorns.

But the good news is that Texas has a stocked quarterback room full of talent behind Ehlinger. You can thank that to the recruiting efforts done consistently by Herman and his coaching staff for the last few cycles. He’s consistently recruited well at the quarterback position, no matter what the circumstances on the trail.

All of the depth that Herman amassed in the quarterback room will truly be put to the test once Ehlinger is unable to start. Whether that be from injury or lack of remaining eligibility, someone else will need to be ready to take the torch from him at some point soon.

The purpose of building out this depth chart is to start deciphering how this group of quarterbacks stacks up behind Ehlinger when these circumstances arise. Here’s a look at how the Longhorns quarterbacks will stack up in 2020.
