Next two up

The next two on this depth chart for the Longhorns are likely going to be the future at the quarterback position on the Forty Acres. These next two quarterbacks are sure to compete with the likes of 2021 Katy-Tompkins four-star dual-threat commit Jalen Milroe for the starting role once Ehlinger’s time on the Forty Acres is done.

4. Ja’Quinden Jackson, Freshman

Maybe the most exciting quarterback on the Texas roster at this point in time, the former Duncanville four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit Ja’Quinden Jackson will surely be a sight to see whenever he gets his chance to shine. Jackson was one of the top rated signees in the 2020 recruiting class, but has a while to go before he wins any starting job.

Jackson ranked as the nation’s No. 73 2020 high school prospect, No. 3 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 10 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He’s going to get his shot, or maybe move positions, but it’s only a matter of time before we see Jackson on the gridiron for the Longhorns on a regular basis.

3. Hudson Card, Freshman

In all likelihood, the next starting quarterback is going to come down to a battle between the next two names on this depth chart. The first is the former Westlake High School product and Austin, TX, native four-star dual-threat quarterback Hudson Card. He and Jackson were the top quarterback signees in the 2020 class.

Card ranked as the nation’s No. 59 2020 high school prospect, No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 7 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). He has a big arm and can make a lot of opposing defenders miss in the open field. The biggest challenges for Card will be working past the other dual-threat quarterback yet to be named on this list and get back from the injury he experienced from his senior season in high school.
