With an updated schedule potentially in hand soon for the Texas football program for the upcoming 2020 season, what are the key games ahead?

With the Big 12 looking like it will take the route of a 10 game schedule for the looming 2020 college football season, the Texas football program has a clearer idea of how it will be altered in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Texas also put its initial notable set of precautions in place for the home games this fall on Aug. 3. This is a first step to figuring out what this COVID-19 pandemic altered season will truly look like.

One thing that is for sure is that the Longhorns are going to face a tough test getting ready for what’s ahead in the Big 12 this fall. They have a difficult conference slate still, with the other nine teams forming a deeper race of challengers to win the conference title than there appeared to be last year. Texas should also be one of those Big 12 Championship contenders again this fall.

But this will all depends on how the impending season shakes out in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The planned start to the season was set for Sep. 5 at home against the South Florida Bulls. While that game isn’t officially off the schedule yet, it looks like the UTEP Miners out of the Conference-USA will be the Longhorns plus-one this fall. The Big 12 looks to be going with the conference slate plus-one strategy for the schedule this fall.

Depending on how the conference spaces out the schedule this fall, it could shape up to be similar to that of the other Power Five conferences. Most of the other Power Five conferences at this point are planning on playing a conference slate only this fall, such as the PAC-12 and Big Ten.

Here’s a look into the three most important games that the Longhorns will have for this fall with the supposed updated schedule that is now in place.
