The lone name on this list that the Longhorns appear to be firmly in the running to land out of the transfer portal at this point in time is the former Arizona Wildcats rising senior linebacker Tony Fields II. This 6-foot-1 and 220 pound linebacker apparently has the Longhorns in a mix of three finalist schools that he’ll narrow his commitment decision down to.

The other two schools that are still in the running to land Fields as an immediately eligible graduate transfer out of the portal are the West Virginia Mountaineers and Minnesota Golden Gophers. There are previous relationship ties that Fields has to both the West Virginia and Minnesota coaching staffs.

But Texas did reportedly (Anwar Richardson of Orange Bloods) get a visit from Fields on Aug. 5. That is big for the Longhorns since the commitment decision from Fields shouldn’t be all that far out. Texas or Minnesota should have the highest ceilings compared to his other finalist school West Virginia, and his previous program Arizona, for this coming season.

What Fields would bring to the table for the Longhorns is 287 career total tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble. His most productive season of his career actually came during his freshman campaign, which was just before former Texas A&M Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin took over in the same position with the Arizona program.
