3 high-profile transfers Texas football could still go after
The offensive line doesn’t look to need a lot of immediate help for the Longhorns this fall, but the depth is just not there at certain spots in the trenches.
The right side of the offensive line is going to be much thinner than the left. Texas is pretty solidified on the left side of the offensive line between the projected first round 2021 NFL Draft pick and rising redshirt junior offensive tackle Sam Cosmi and the talented former five-star recruit and left guard Tyler Johnson potentially getting his shot to shine.
But the right side of the line could have little to no game experience among the backups, and a projected starter like rising senior right tackle Denzel Okafor doesn’t inspire the most confidence.
Where Texas can look for help in this regard is with yet another immediately eligible rising senior offensive lineman out of the transfer portal. This would continue a streak of three consecutive offseasons that the Longhorns turned to the transfer portal for help along the offensive line.
This time it would be the Longhorns going after the rising senior former three-star recruit and 6-foot-4 and 300 pound former NC State Wolfpack offensive guard Joshua Fedd-Jackson, in this hypothetical scenario. Fedd-Jackson entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason close to when news broke that he was arrested.
The off-the-field issues are obviously notable for Fedd-Jackson, but he also might have the highest ceiling of any offensive lineman that is immediately eligible and still in the portal. The viability of getting him to the Forty Acres depends on how his off-the-field standing plays out heading into the 2020 season.
