3 high-profile transfers Texas football could still go after
A notable nugget from that Anwar Richardson report on his Twitter timeline on Aug. 5 was the news that rising senior running back and former four-star recruit Daniel Young is sitting out of workouts at the moment and could opt out of the looming season due to COVID-19 concerns. If Young is in fact going to miss the 2020 season in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic, then it is very much worth finding other options at the running back position.
Two names really stick out as to those who the Longhorns could pursue for immediate help this fall. And this also seems to be why Texas was in the thick of the running to get a proven FCS grad transfer option like Simpson, but he did choose Virginia over the Longhorns.
The first name that sticks out that Texas could go after that is somehow still in the portal is former Auburn Tigers grad transfer JaTarvious Whitlow.
But another potential name up that the Longhorns could turn to that is still in the portal somehow is the former Florida State Seminoles rising redshirt junior running back Khalan Laborn. This ultra-talented former five-star recruit that signed with Florida State as part of their 2017 recruiting class did have a spotty history in Tallahassee, though. He’s had a rough injury history and a few suspensions from his time at Florida State.
During his bits and pieces of two years of at least a decent amount of playing time with Florida State, Laborn had 74 total touches for 400 total yards and four touchdowns. Of those 400 total yards, 297 of them were rushing and all four of his scores were touchdowns on the ground. He also averaged well over five yards per carry in his career thus far.
