One of the biggest remaining targets of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, 4-Star Royse City WR Ketron Jackson, is trending to land on the 40.

It could be a good time for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class on the trail in the next few weeks. Leading up to the start of the 2019 season, head coach Tom Herman and his staff found a lot of fortune on the recruiting trail to start rounding out their 2020 class. Now the same might be able to be said for the 2021 class, as we inch closer to the start of the Early Signing Period.

Not all that much time exists between now and the start of the Early Signing Period. The recruiting timeline for this cycle obviously got muddied in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Visits were cancelled out, and any prospective recruits were forced to take trips on their own if they wanted to see what Austin is all about.

Where the Longhorns go from here should be based on positional need to round out the 2021 class. There are still a few very highly touted four and five-star targets left on the board too. Among those at least at the skill positions are four-star Cy Fair running back L.J. Johnson, elite five-star Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton, and standout four-star Royse City wide receiver Ketron Jackson.

The latter of those three highly touted and coveted skill position prospects that the Longhorns remain very much in the running to land is really trending in the right direction for Herman of late. The 6-foot-2 and 185 pound Texas native is starting to see some real momentum in terms of his favor toward the Longhorns.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, as of the night of Aug. 5, had the bulk of the experts picking Jackson to commit to Texas over the rest of the competition. The Rivals FutureCast also now has half of their analysts and publishers picking Jackson to commit to Texas.

The other front runner to land the commitment of Jackson by now is the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas along with the TCU Horned Frogs stuck around among the leaders to win over Jackson’s interests for most of this recruiting cycle.

But there are nearly two dozen schools in total that sit on Jackson’s offer sheet, as of Aug. 5. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes Texas, Arkansas, TCU, the Colorado Buffaloes, Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, SMU Mustangs, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Jackson ranks as the nation’s No. 147 2021 high school prospect, No. 26 wide receiver, and No. 24 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The Top247 rankings slot him as the No. 21 wide receiver. And the latest offer he’s received came from Penn State back on June 10.

Next. High profile transfers Texas could still go after. dark

If Jackson were to be the next commit in the Longhorns 2021 class, he would be the 16th prospect to do so. He could also help boost the 2021 class back closer into the top 10 ranked classes in the nation.
