A number of changes to the Texas football coaching staff since the conclusion of this past regular season could pay dividends this fall.
There’s not much that the Texas football program can do in 2020 to help out head coach Tom Herman more so than reaching the double-digit win mark for the second time in his tenure in Austin. Herman already came under some heat last season where Texas finished up with just seven wins following the conclusion of the regular season.
If not for the Alamo Bowl win over the Utah Utes, Herman might be out of luck with the Longhorns. But he did get that win over the No. 11 ranked Utes in the Alamo Bowl by a convincing 28-point margin, and likely save his job from coming under an intense amount of heat heading into the offseason.
Texas wound up finishing up the 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12). That result did fall well short of where the Longhorns were expected to finish up in the preseason. Texas held a top 10 ranking in both major polls heading into the 2019 season.
As a result of the letdown of a result for the Longhorns last season, Herman enacted a full-on overhaul of his coaching staff. That included replacing both major coordinator positions, amid a number of other changes to his staff.
But which of these coaching hires is going to be the most impactful during the 2020 season? We’ll start to see with Texas now underway in fall/training camp and a little more than one month remaining until kickoff of the altered 2020 season.
Here’s a deeper look into the three most important coaching changes for the Longhorns heading into the 2020 campaign.
