There could be an emerging name in the Texas football receiving corps in fall practice with freshman Troy Omeire standing out.

With head coach Tom Herman and the Texas football program firmly in the midst of fall/training camp starting late last week, the onus is on the players and coaching staff to be ready for what is sure to be a turbulent season ahead. Texas has to go from essentially five months of offseason hiatus to full-on pads practice and game situations in camp.

There is also less than one full month now until the planned 2020 regular season slate for the Longhorns is supposed to begin. Texas is supposed to open up the 2020 regular season schedule on Sep. 12 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the UTEP Miners out of the Conference-USA.

Then, Big 12 play is set to begin for the Longhorns on Sep. 26 at home at DKR against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. With pretty much the entirety of the Big 12 slate altered for this fall, there are a ton of adjustments that Herman and the Longhorns have to make along the way.

The good news for the Longhorns is that they get a reasonable opponent to open up the 2020 season and it appears that the players are looking ready for what is headed their way this fall. One particular player that is looking to make an immediate impact this fall is the incoming freshman and former four-star recruit Troy Omeire.

This 6-foot-3 and 230 pound towering wideout and Sugar Land, TX, native was the highest rated signee at the position for the Longhorns in their 2020 recruiting class. He wasn’t supposed to come onto the Forty Acres with expectations of making an immediate impact, but that appears to be what he’s doing thus far in camp.

Omeire reportedly (Horns247, paid content) is having a great stint in fall practice thus far. That report from Horns247 even mentioned that he looked like the former Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson in pads. He has really been the talk of the town early in camp.

With this type of showing already in fall camp, Omeire could be making a big enough impressive with recently promoted wide receivers coach Andre Coleman to get some early playing time this fall. There is already a lot of turnover at the top of the Texas receiving corps, so Omeire could work his way up the depth chart in the near future.

The other receivers that Omeire will be competing with for playing time this fall includes rising sophomore Jake Smith, redshirt freshman Jordan Whittington, grad transfer rising senior Tarik Black, and redshirt sophomore Joshua Moore. But it looks like Omeire is doing all he can to gain an early edge.
