2. Patrick Mahomes

Definitely the most impressive name on this list that the Longhorns were able to shut down at any point in time in the last decade was the former Texas Tech Red Raiders star quarterback (and Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Champion) Patrick Mahomes. And the Longhorns got to face Mahomes on three different occasions, compared to just one against Lock and Mizzou.

Mahomes didn’t find a whole lot of success in the win column during his run with former head coach Kliff Kingsbury at the Texas Tech program, but his individual statistics were spectacular. For his career at Texas Tech, Mahomes registered more than 11,000 passing yards, 93 passing touchdowns, 29 interceptions, 848 rushing yards, and 22 rushing touchdowns.

In three tries against the Longhorns, Mahomes only came out on top on one occasion. That one win for Mahomes and the Red Raiders over Texas during his college career came during the 2015 season. But that also wasn’t the best game that Mahomes had individually against Texas. He registered 372 passing yards, one passing touchdown, one interception, and one rushing touchdown.

When Texas downed Texas Tech during the 2016 season, former star running back D’Onta Foreman went off and powered the Longhorns to the victory. Mahomes still managed 367 passing yards on a whopping 59 passing attempts, three passing touchdowns, and one interception.

Texas did a good job holding Mahomes at bay to the best of their ability, and they held him to the second lowest passer efficiency rating for his career compared to any other Big 12 team he played against.
