It’s hard to not get excited about what 5-Star QB Quinn Ewers brings for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, and Ehlinger sees that.

No matter what, this is going to be a huge weekend for the likes of head coach Tom Herman and his team on the trail. The 2022 Texas football recruiting class kicked off the weekend in just about the best way possible by landing a commitment from the elite five-star Southlake Carroll 6-foot-3 and 195 pound pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers on Aug. 14.

This commitment from Ewers was obviously going to be met by a raucous reaction from the Longhorns faithful. Whenever a mostly unexpected commit drops from a top ranked high school prospect in the nation, like Ewers, the reaction is definitely going to be sudden and fanatical.

Once the announcement from Ewers dropped on the afternoon of Aug. 14, anyone with any association to the Longhorns football program could rejoice. And the reaction, even from current Longhorn football players, was pretty insane.

After the commitment of Ewers to Texas was announced on his Twitter timeline on Friday afternoon, the current players and coaching staff gave some of their reactions on social media. One of the bigger recruiters on the Texas coaching staff that gave his quick reaction to the announcement of the pledge of Ewers was recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

Yurcich tweeted out “we gonna light it up”, which was much more animated than Herman got on his Twitter page on Aug. 14. Herman just tweeted the “Hook-Em” lookalike emoji following the commitment of Ewers.

But definitely one of the most notable social media interactions for Ewers following his pledge to Texas was with the rising senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Clearly one of the main goals for Ewers after landing on the Forty Acres will be trying to improve on the legacy of Texas quarterbacks around at least one or two years after Ehlinger’s time in college is done.

Ehlinger is the best starting quarterback the Longhorns had since Colt McCoy and Vince Young, so filling his shoes will definitely be a difficult task for whoever’s up next following the conclusion of the 2020 campaign.

Without a doubt, Ehlinger was excited about the news of the Ewers addition to the Longhorns 2022 class. He tweeted out almost immediately with a hyped up reaction, and Ewers even responded with some gratitude back to him on Twitter.

Ewers is the highest rated quarterback commit since VY, and he’s the sixth perfect rated prospect in the all-time 247Sports Composite Rankings. The only two perfect rated quarterbacks in the 247Sports Composite are Ewers and VY.

During his three year playing career on the Forty Acres thus far, Ehlinger has registered nearly 9,000 passing yards, more than 1,500 rushing yards, 68 passing touchdowns, 22 interceptions, and 25 rushing touchdowns. Ewers will be hoping that he can more than one-up what Ehlinger did and return this Longhorns football program back to national prominence, as VY once did.
