Red River is now anticipated to be held at 25 percent to capacity for fan attendance at the Cotton Bowl between Texas football and Oklahoma.

The 2020 college football season is still very much up in the air heading out of one of the final weekends before the planned kickoff. This season was supposed to begin on Week 0 starting as soon as next weekend. But none of the released planned schedules for the 2020 season look to start with any Power Five conference teams until next month. And the Texas football program is one of those with an altered schedule set to begin around the middle of next month.

The first planned game for the Longhorns football team this fall comes at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 12 against the UTEP Miners out of Conference-USA. Then, Texas is set to open up Big 12 play on Sep. 26 on the road in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Nearly all of the Big 12 slate for the Longhorns this fall was altered in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Two of the three non-conference games were also cancelled out, including the road matchup against the defending National Champion LSU Tigers and the South Florida Bulls out of the American Athletic Conference.

Really the only game that is holding to the status quo is the annual Red River Rivalry game, which is planned for Oct. 10 at the original Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas. Texas has to travel to the fairgrounds and the original Cotton Bowl to take on the rival Oklahoma Sooners in between two home Big 12 games.

And the alterations for the crowd at the Red River Rivalry game this year are very similar to that of what the Longhorns are planning for their home games at DKR this fall. According to a post from the Twitter timeline of Brian Davis of the Austin-American Statesman on Aug. 16, the plan is to keep the Cotton Bowl at 25 percent capacity for fan attendance. Oklahoma and Texas would each get 12.5 percent of the ticket allotments.

This report also mentions that neither Texas nor Oklahoma are expected to give the visiting teams ticket allotments for this fall. Texas is expected to keep all of their home games this season at 25 percent capacity for fan attendance.

Of the 10 games planned for the 2020 regular season schedule for Texas, five will come at DKR, four on the road, and one at a neutral site for Red River. The regular season finale is now set way back on Dec. 5 against the Kansas State Wildcats on the road.
