2. Kansas State Wildcats

In his career playing on the Forty Acres thus far, Ehlinger is actually undefeated in six tries (and five starts) against both of the Kansas schools out of the Big 12. The Kansas State Wildcats were on the unfortunate end of three solid outings from Ehlinger in which the Longhorns were finally able to get over the hump against the stingy squad coached up by Chris Klieman (formerly the legendary Bill Snyder).

All three of the games Ehlinger played in against Kansas State in his college career were ones that he started. Even the 2017 win over Kansas State at home for Texas was a start for Ehlinger over then sophomore Buechele. That 2017 win over Kansas State was also arguably the biggest in the regular season for head coach Tom Herman in his first year at the helm.

Most of the damage that Ehlinger did to the Wildcats over the course of the last two seasons at least was in terms of efficiency and yardage, not so much total touchdowns. For example, in last season’s win for the Longhorns over Kansas State, running back Keaontay Ingram had a multi-touchdown game. And another one of the touchdowns in that 2019 win over Kansas State came by way of a kick return.

In his career against Kansas State, Ehlinger has completed more than 70 percent of his 115 passing attempts, for more than 1,000 total yards, four passing touchdowns, and two interceptions. That amounted to a decent 140.5 passer efficiency rating. Ehlinger did what he had to do for the Longhorns offense to beat Kansas State on each of his three tries.
