The 2021 Texas football recruiting class will have to recover now from losing the commitment of 4-Star dual-threat QB Jalen Milroe to Alabama.

A big blow was dealt to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class on Aug. 17, with the news that emerged on social media that the former four-star Katy Tompkins dual-threat quarterback commit Jalen Milroe was flipping. Milroe declared on his Twitter timeline on Monday evening that he would be flipping his commitment from Texas to join the Alabama Crimson Tide 2021 recruiting class.

Now that Milroe gave his commitment to head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide earlier this week, the Longhorns are left without a single quarterback in their 2021 class. Given that they signed both four-star Lake Travis dual-threat quarterback Hudson Card and Duncanville dual-threat quarterback/athlete Ja’Quinden Jackson in the 2020 recruiting class, it didn’t look like the Longhorns needed much more than Milroe in this cycle.

But Texas would likely at least want to have one quarterback committed in the 2021 recruiting class by the time the Early Signing Period arrives. Since they landed Milroe fairly early on in this recruiting cycle, the options of uncommitted remaining targets for head coach Tom Herman and recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich have really dwindled.

And what the Longhorns are losing by Milroe flipping to Alabama is the nation’s No. 82 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 10 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class is now down to No. 14 in the nation, and remains just ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12.

Texas currently holds 16 commits in their 2021 class, after losing the commitment of Milroe. And the latest commitment came from three-star Monarch wide receiver Jaden Alexis. But now Texas has to replace this commitment in all likelihood before the first day of the Early Signing Period arrives in December.

Here’s a look into four possible remaining quarterback targets that the Longhorns could go after to replace Milroe in the 2021 class.
