Texas football adds WR depth with Oregon transfer Brenden Schooler
Texas football added more depth to the receiving corps earlier this week by landing former Oregon transfer wide receiver Brenden Schooler.
The looming 2020 college football season is going to be a very challenging and volatile one for the Texas football program. Texas is going to have to try to piece together a solid 2020 season in the fourth year under the direction of head coach Tom Herman, with a largely reshaped coaching staff around him.
Just prior to kickoff for the 2020 season, the Longhorns were able to add a few key names out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. And the latest one to find his way to the Forty Acres was the former Oregon Ducks and Arizona Wildcats transfer wide receiver/rising senior Brenden Schooler. Schooler is a 6-foot-2 and 195 pound wide receiver that can also play at tight end.
He also played a multiple different positions during his time with two different programs out of the PAC-12. He played wide receiver, tight end, and safety between his four years with the Oregon and Arizona football programs.
The news was first reported by Horns247, and later confirmed by Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman on Twitter. This is a big get for the Longhorns, that is also a natural fit it seems for what Herman and his coaching staff usually looks for out of a player like Schooler.
Getting a very multiple, versatile, and experienced player out of the transfer portal like Schooler is a big get for Texas. During his career playing between the Oregon and Arizona programs, Schooler registered 43 catches for 521 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.
When he played in the defensive backfield with the Ducks, Schooler registered 91 total tackles, one tackle for loss, 0.5 sacks, and a whopping four interceptions. He finished in the top five in interceptions during the 2016 season, which was his freshman campaign in Eugene.
The California native and Mission Viejo High School product Schooler signed with the Ducks in their 2016 recruiting class. He ranked as the nation’s No. 1,841 2016 high school prospect, No. 126 athlete, and No. 210 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).
Schooler is the second addition to the receiving corps for the Longhorns this offseason. The first was the former four-star recruit and Michigan rising senior graduate transfer wideout Tarik Black. This should help Texas have a pretty deep receiving corps to sport this fall.
