1) Teams that would benefit from leaving the Big 12: Kansas

There’s no other school in the Big 12 (maybe outside of West Virginia for geographic reasons) that would be more agreed upon among fans of programs in this conference as to why they should leave than the Kansas Jayhawks. Former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles is valiantly trying to bring the Kansas football program back to prominence.

But that will be anything but an easy feat given how bad Kansas was in the Power Five conference landscape throughout the 2010’s. It doesn’t look like Kansas is going to get back into the realm of consistent contention for bowl eligibility anytime soon either. Kansas finished up the 2019 season with a record of 3-9.

That was the second straight three-win season for the Jayhawks football program. At least Kansas didn’t continue their streak of double-digit loss seasons, which they stopped at three during the 2018 campaign. Kansas has not reached the five-win mark since the 2009 season. And they haven’t been bow eligible since the 2008 campaign.

There is a chance that the Jayhawks could at least get to the level of a program like West Virginia, Iowa State, or the Kansas State Wildcats and/or Texas Tech Red Raiders. But that seems to be about the ceiling of that program at this point in time. The biggest value add for the Jayhawks in the Big 12 is definitely the men’s basketball program.
