Texas Football: 3 best Earl Thomas landing spots post-release
3) Best Earl Thomas landing spots: Indianapolis Colts
A good spot for Thomas seems to be a team that has talent around him, but doesn’t place too much pressure on his shoulders to lead the entire defense. At this point of his career, Thomas should also get another shot to not only win his division, but compete for another Super Bowl. He already has one ring from his run with the Seahawks, but could he get another?
An intriguing landing spot for Thomas is definitely with the Indianapolis Colts out of the AFC South. The Colts are actually one of two landing spots in the AFC South that would make a lot of sense for Thomas. The other is the Houston Texans.
What the Colts need is just an overall improvement to their current secondary. This could be a double benefit to the Colts if they were able to sign Thomas, since it could help former Ohio State safety Malik Hooker come along and add depth at a position of need. The Colts other options at safety includes Tavon Wilson and Khari Willis.
There’s not all that much for the Colts secondary to brag about entering the 2020 regular season. And there’s not much more that general manager Chris Ballard could do to help the Colts than bolster the secondary. A Colts team that invested a lot in the short-term with former NC State quarterback Phillip Rivers could use the assistance on the other side of the ball.
