1) Best Earl Thomas landing spots: Dallas Cowboys

The landing spot that everyone wants to see Thomas wind up at is with the Dallas Cowboys and recently hired head coach Mike McCarthy in the NFC East. The Cowboys did upgrade a bit at the safety position earlier in the offseason, by signing former Chicago Bears and Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

But what other moves might the Cowboys be thinking to try and get an upgrade on the defensive side of the ball?

There was a point when the Cowboys were looking into a trade deal with the New York Jets to land the former LSU Tigers star safety Jamal Adams. But Adams ultimately wound up landing with Thomas’ former team in a blockbuster trade, with the Seahawks. Now the Cowboys must find an answer if there is anything that doesn’t work out between Clinton-Dix and Xavier Woods.

Even if the Cowboys were to sign Thomas, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they would have to place Clinton-Dix or Woods in a backup role. Thomas could get frequent playing time in the secondary alongside those two. Backups like Donovan Wilson and Darian Thompson also might not be thrown into the fire quite as often.

McCarthy did make a point to “pour cold water” on the situation of Thomas landing with the Cowboys earlier in the month. But with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at the helm, there’s no telling what lies in the immediate future in Dallas. It would be more fun than anything else to see Thomas land with the Cowboys.
