2) Best players in the Big 12 for the 2020 season: Sam Ehlinger, Quarterback

Texas is lucky to have their best outlook at quarterback heading into the 2020 season than they’ve had likely since Colt McCoy left campus following the 2009 season. Rising senior star signal caller Sam Ehlinger can do great things for the Longhorns this fall if he’s able to get a solid season out of his supporting cast.

Ehlinger actually had his best year in college to date last year. This tree-trunk of a 6-foot-3 and 225 pound Austin, TX, native and experienced dual-threat quarterback Ehlinger registered 3,663 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, a 65.2 completion percentage, 8.5 adjusted yards per passing attempts, and a career-best 151.8 passer efficiency rating.

Adding to that, Ehlinger averaged more than four yards per carry in a single season for the first time in his career. He registered 663 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, while averaging 4.1 yards per carry.

For his career in total on the Forty Acres to date, Ehlinger has registered more than 10,000 career total yards, 93 total touchdowns, 22 interceptions, and a 143.4 passer efficiency rating.

Without a doubt Ehlinger is the best returning quarterback in the Big 12 this fall. He’ll have to compete with the likes of Iowa State’s Brock Purdy, Baylor’s Charlie Brewer, Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, etc. to keep this title. But he surely has the ability to do so.
