Texas Football: 3 most efficient skill position players for 2020
1) Most efficient skill position players for Longhorns: Sam Ehlinger, Quarterback
By far the most efficient player that the Longhorns have coming back this fall is a pretty obvious choice. While it might seem like cheating to have rising senior star signal caller Sam Ehlinger at the top of this list, it is worth noting that he is one of the more accomplished quarterbacks in the Big 12 in recent memory (purely statistically speaking).
In three years playing at Texas, Ehlinger registered a 63.2 completion percentage, 8,870 passing yards, 68 passing touchdowns, 22 interceptions, 143.4 passer efficiency rating, and 8.0 adjusted yards per passing attempt. He’s added more than 1,600 total yards from scrimmage (115 of which are receiving yards) and 25 rushing touchdowns. Ehlinger averaged 3.5 yards per carry in his career so far.
Apparently Ehlinger is the second-highest graded quarterback returning to play during the 2020 college football season. That only ranks him behind the superstar Clemson junior quarterback Trevor Lawrence in terms of passer grades from last season. He also had the best offensive grade of any Longhorn last season.
Last season was also Ehlinger’s best to date for the Longhorns. He registered a career-high 151.8 passer efficiency rating, 8.5 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and 4.1 yards per carry, during the 2019 season. Ehlinger will be key for the Longhorns this fall, and he will need to be at his best for them to finally get that elusive Big 12 Championship to Austin.
