Texas Football: 3 players who could lose their starting job in 2020
Which position groups could the Texas football program look to have a lot of reshuffling at the top come the start of the 2020 season?
The way that the depth chart will be configured for the Texas football program this fall should largely be based on both the players that opted out of the 2020 season and the plethora of returning starters on both sides of the ball. Texas is now up to four players that have opted out of playing in the 2020 season in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The most recent of those four Longhorns to opt out is former three-star Hutto wide receiver recruit and true freshman Dajon Harrison. The other three are senior running back Daniel Young, sophomore offensive lineman Willie Tyler, and senior defensive lineman Marqez Bimage. But the good news for those players, if they want to return for the Longhorns for at least another year, is that they can get this year of eligibility back according to a new NCAA rule.
Texas is supposed to open up the 2020 season on Sep. 12, with an altered Big 12-plus one schedule this fall, against the UTEP Miners out of the Conference-USA at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. That season opener against UTEP will be the Longhorns lone non-conference game, before opening up Big 12 play on the road at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock on Sep. 26 against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
There’s not much time that Texas has left before the 2020 season begins. The FBS portion of the 2020 season started on Sep. 3, with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles falling short against the South Alabama Jaguars, and the UAB Blazers taking care of business against the FCS Central Arkansas Bears.
With the Longhorns having such a short turnaround time between fall/training camp and the start of this coming season, which starters have to be on the lookout for their spots being taken early on?
