3) Texas football starters who could lose their job: Moro Ojomo, Defensive End

Since Bimage opted out of the 2020 season, there is less of a chance that the rising senior defensive end Moro Ojomo would have his spot taken by another lineman so much younger than him. But that’s how good head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns did with the 2020 recruiting class in the trenches.

There are younger linemen like Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton that are talented enough, and look to have enough maturity in their game already, to push Ojomo for playing time this fall if his production slips up. This is not to say that Ojomo was bad for the Longhorns in his mixed bag of game action last fall.

But there was not much valuable exposure that Ojomo got in games over the course of the last two seasons. Last season, Ojomo racked up some level of production in eight games. He registered 13.0 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery. Most of his production came in last year’s win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys (4 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss), win over Texas Tech (1 tackle for loss), and win over the Utah Utes (3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss).

A solid stint the rest of the way in fall camp for someone like Collins or Broughton, and any slip ups early this season from Ojomo, could spell trouble for the senior defensive end. He was pretty efficient in limited spots last season, but there’s so much young talent that will be gunning for early playing time that Ojomo should watch out this fall.
