Projected Texas football DB depth chart: Cornerback

CB1: D’shawn Jamison, Junior

One of the leaders of the Longhorns secondary at the cornerback position this year should be the ultra-versatile and talented rising junior former four-star recruit D’shawn Jamison. Early in Big 12 play last year, Herman and Orlando gave Jamison the chance to start at one of the corner slots, and he made the most of the opportunity right away.

Last season, Jamison registered 35 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, three pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He also has two special teams returns for touchdowns in his two years playing for Texas. Jamison is going to be the playmaker for this secondary in all likelihood, and should be some interesting matchups because of it.

CB1 Backup: Kenyatta Watson II, Redshirt Freshman

The former highly touted four-star recruit and redshirt freshman cornerback Kenyatta Watson II should be the next man up at either of these two starting slots at this position group if injuries or poor play take over. Watson II was pretty good, especially down the stretch last season, when given the opportunity.

During his true freshman season, Watson II registered five tackles, one pass breakup, and he gave up one touchdown catch in the process. He was targeted on nine occasions last season, giving up five receptions. But in the regular season finale against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Watson II was targeted five times, giving up just one reception.

He could be entering the 2020 campaign on a high note.
