The 2021 Texas football recruiting class appears poised to miss out on 5-Star Warwick OT Nolan Rucci to Wisconsin on Sep. 8.

Once the 2021 Texas football recruiting class turned to the forefront of the focus on the trail for head coach Tom Herman and his staff, it looked like the offensive line could be stacked. But the Longhorns have not done well for the most part this cycle recruiting along the offensive line. They’ve missed out on a handful of their top targets, including elite prospects like five-star in-state offensive guard Donovan Jackson (committed to Ohio State) and the highly coveted Brockermeyer brothers (both committed to Alabama).

Losing the Brockermeyer brothers to the Alabama Crimson Tide might’ve hurt more than any other miss on the recruiting trail for Herman and the Longhorns this entire cycle.

Another top tier offensive line prospect that the Longhorns appear that they will miss out on for their 2021 class is the elite five-star Warwick offensive tackle Nolan Rucci. On the evening of Sep. 8, it appears that Rucci is set to announce his commitment decision.

The five finalist schools that Rucci appears to be down to heading into the evening of his commitment decision are the Penn State Nittany Lions, Wisconsin Badgers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines, and Clemson Tigers. Rucci holds offers from just shy of 30 schools, though, as of the afternoon of Sep. 8.

The highlighting schools on his offer sheet that he cut to get down to those five finalists includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Stanford Cardinal, Washington Huskies, and Texas A&M Aggies. Texas offered Rucci back on Jan. 31, 2019, so they’ve been after him for a good while now.

What the Longhorns could be missing in Rucci is the nation’s No. 14 2021 high school prospect, No. 5 offensive tackle, and top overall prospect out of Pennsylvania (247Sports Composite). Him ranking as the No. 5 offensive tackle shows just how deep this cycle is at the position.

The program that appears to have a heavy lead trending to land Rucci’s commitment on his decision date is Wisconsin, per the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions. Penn State was trending to land Rucci for a while, but Wisconsin made a late run entering the summer.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 15 in the nation and remains behind the Oklahoma Sooners in the second spot in the Big 12. Texas holds 17 commits in their 2021 class, and Wisconsin has 16. The Badgers are slotted at No. 17 in the national class ranks, and sits at No. 3 in the Big Ten.
