Texas football after 4-Star 2022 USC LB commit Niuafe Tuihalamaka
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class looks to now be after 4-Star USC ILB commit Nuiafe Tuihalamaka, as they offered him back on Sep. 1.
The quest to bolster the 2022 Texas football recruiting class around the nation’s top ranked high school prospect, and five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers, is on just ahead of the start of the 2020 season. Ewers is not only the top ranked quarterback for the 2022 recruiting cycle, but he is the top overall high school prospect in the nation.
As of the morning of Sep. 8, the Longhorns 2022 recruiting class does only hold commitments from two prospects. There is Ewers and talented four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson. The first commit in the 2022 class was Wilson, a few months back.
However, a new emerging target that could be more prioritized of late for head coach Tom Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator (and former Rutgers head coach) Chris Ash is four-star Bishop Alemany inside linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka. A 6-foot-1.5 and 240 pound rock of a linebacker is currently committed to head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans.
This product hailing from Mission Hills, CA, has received scholarship offers from three schools since he committed to USC back on Feb. 4, 2020. Outside of the Longhorns offer, the two that Tuihalamaka received came from the UCLA Bruins and Stanford Cardinal.
In total, Tuihalamaka holds offers from just over a dozen schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Florida Gators, defending National Champion LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers, and Vanderbilt Commodores.
What the Longhorns would be getting if they managed to flip the commitment of Tuihalamaka from the Trojans would be the nation’s No. 63 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 inside linebacker, and No. 8 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). The Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 79 high school prospect, No. 5 inside linebacker, and No. 9 prospect out of California.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 6 in the nation and holds the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners. At this moment, Tuihalamaka is the lone commit in USC’s 2022 class, which slots at No. 17 in the national class rankings and No. 3 in the PAC-12.
