Texas Football: 3 problematic UTEP Miners for Longhorns in Week 1
1) Problematic Miners players for Texas football: Duron Lowe, CB
Unlike Hankins, the senior 5-foot-11 and 175 pound former JUCO transfer cornerback Duron Lowe was not that highly touted when he was recruited to UTEP. Lowe signed with the Miners 2019 recruiting class as an unheralded two-star prospect coming out of Butler Community College in Overland Park, KS.
What the Miners got out of landing Lowe in their 2019 recruiting class was the nation’s No. 343 2019 JUCO prospect, No. 45 cornerback, and No. 75 prospect out of Kansas (247Sports Composite). That’s hard to believe that a cornerback that’s been as productive as Lowe with the Miners over the course of the last 15 months was that under-the-radar coming out of Butler C.C.
During his junior campaign, Lowe registered 24 total tackles and six pass deflections. In the season opener, he registered three total tackles and one interception. That was the first interception of his career.
Lowe will have his hands full with a very talented Longhorns receiving corps in the season opener this weekend. He could be matched up against anyone like senior wide receiver Tarik Black, redshirt freshman Jordan Whittington, redshirt sophomore Joshua Moore, and/or junior Brennan Eagles in this game.
